Watro Appointed to School Safety and Security Committee

HARRISBURG – Rep. Dane Watro (R-Luzerne/Schuylkill) today announced he has been appointed to serve on the School Safety and Security Committee under the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency by House Republican Leader Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton).

“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve in this role and contribute to the safety and security of our schools, which should always be a top priority,” said Watro. “I want to thank Leader Topper for entrusting me with this important responsibility. I am eager to get started and work toward ensuring a safe and worry-free learning environment for students statewide.”

The 22-member committee was created as part of Act 44 of 2018, a comprehensive law that assesses how Pennsylvania schools can be safer for students. Among the committee’s duties is to oversee the distribution of state funding for security equipment, police officers and student mental health programs. Members serve four-year terms.

“Rep. Watro has had a distinguished military career and, during his time in the Pennsylvania House, has proven himself to be a leader on education issues. His qualifications and keen interest in this area make him a natural fit to be a strong voice for our caucus in deciding how to devote taxpayer resources to making schools safer,” Topper said.

Watro is replacing Rep. Stephenie Scialabba (R-Butler), and will complete her remaining term, which expires in February 2028.
